Oakdale, Minn. (April 8, 1997) -- Imation Corp. (NYSE: IMN) the imaging and information company recently spun-off by 3M, today announced that it has established a sales office in Moscow to address the rapidly growing commercial opportunities in Russia. The creation of the new office -- which will be staffed exclusively by sales and administrative personnel -- supports Imation's goal of generating over 60 percent of sales in markets outside the United States over the next five years. Imation currently has sales offices in Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic to support its growth goals in Eastern Europe. The Imation sales team will market a wide range of imaging and information storage products. According to company officials, Russia is expected to be one of the largest markets for consumer goods, telecommunications, digital storage and imaging technologies in Europe over the next decade. "Imation's presence in Russia creates an excellent opportunity to grow our company by delivering imaging and information solutions to a new, relatively untapped market," said Bill Monahan, chairman and chief executive officer, Imation Corp. According to Monahan, Imation will leverage its position as the world's largest supplier of removable data storage media, as well as its leading position in medical imaging, printing and publishing, and private label photographic film to deliver new solutions to Russian customers. Imation Corp. supplies a variety of products and services worldwide for the information processing industry, specializing in imaging applications and information storage. The business units that make up Imation had 1996 revenues of approximately $2.3 billion. The company employs approximately 9,400 people worldwide and is based in Oakdale, Minn.
